America Depends on Freedom

America is dependent on the dream of freedom embedded in the hearts of the earliest Americans.

We are, indeed, blessed to still live in an abundance of freedom. Of course there must be some laws to discourage wrongdoing, but most Americans, prefer to live where there are less restrictions and more freedom.

But freedom is fragile and it is incumbent upon every American to guard, defend and advance this precious gift because, as Ronald Reagan also said:

Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.

What is American Freedom?

American freedom is true freedom. It is not the right to do anything we want. Anarchy is a perversion of true freedom. True freedom is the opportunity to do what is right, good and honorable within the law.

The need for freedom must be recognized as primarily a need of the heart not the mind. Logic alone will not prioritized freedom over other material needs like economics or security. Our national motto, “In God we Trust” and our pledge “one nation under God” are instructive of the needs of the heart.

Threats to Freedom

Often we do not recognize the threats to freedom. One prevalent threat is the temptation to trade freedom for security. Benjamin Franklin said, “He who would trade freedom for security deserves neither”. Another threat is the aggregate behavior of a group of people. As Franklin also said, “only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters. “ We must behave well and be self governed or we will be saddled with more and more regulations and laws that restrict our freedom.

Advancing Freedom

Advancing our values will advance freedom and help America. Of course, there are plenty of bad things we should not do. But, we must not forget, there are plenty of good things that we can do. As Calvin Coolidge said, “Little progress can be made by merely attempting to repress what is evil; our great hope lies in developing what is good.”

We believe using our investments to support the BEST examples of American values will advance freedom and, therefore, have a significantly positive impact on America.
